In these uncertain times, we need a leader who doesn't shy away from a fight — and we all know there’s a big one ahead of us. We need a leader who brings new perspectives, energy, and engagement, and who will advocate fiercely for our best interests.

My name is David Lauer, and I’m running for Michigan House District 6. I believe we are all citizens of the world and to give back and to give back often. This race marks my first time stepping forward as a candidate—but not my first time serving my community. As an activist, I was instrumental in organizing both No Kings and Hands-Off demonstrations in Ferndale.  As an advocate, I have helped set at-risk youth up for success through a leadership development camp at The University of Michigan. As a good neighbor, I have a background of expertise in disaster relief and serving our communities near and far.

I’ve also been in the political trenches — helping build winning campaigns for Federal , State, and Local candidates and advised on complex issues such as , public safety , food insecurity, antisemitism, and hate speech. In my professional career as a renovation contractor, I’m as comfortable working with a buzzsaw as I am with a spreadsheet. I have also held positions in Finance, Community Organizing and Nonprofit Leadership.

I grew up in a family of educators and a school community that emphasized a life committed to social justice. I went to both middle and high school in my district. I was always encouraged to ask deep and, at times, difficult questions. Through my years of education, I learned that we are all citizens of the world with the responsibility to take action and to give back and to give back often. My commitment to a life of service has continued into my collegiate and professional careers.

I attended both the University of Michigan and Oakland University. At U of M, I studied the Program in Entrepreneurship, took an interest in Political Science and organized major nonprofit efforts. At Oakland, I pursued Integrative Studies with a focus on Instructional Design. Exploring workers rights, employment law and building highly efficient teams was my area of study. In my professional life, I have held positions in Community Organizing, Political Action, Nonprofit Leadership and Finance.

All of these experiences were the foundation and motivation for me to take action. I’m proud to run as your next State Representative for District 6 because I know that we so desperately need leaders that are accessible, have deep roots in our community, and show up. I pledge to actively listen and then take action. I will be a State Representative who does not shy away from difficult questions and will always advocate fiercely for our community.

I look forward to getting to know you and encourage you to reach out!

Let’s brainstorm, build on old and new ideas and put our best foot forward to preserve our shared Democratic values in  2026.

Nearly every person in Oakland County feels the added weight of costs skyrocketing. It’s never been more difficult to afford a home, to provide food for our families, and to find a high paying secure career.

I’m running to stand with every family and future family, to strengthen how our state supports public education.  If we want to provide a world-class education for our students, we must be willing to learn from success by looking at proven models from other states and around the world and applying what works here at home.

That goes for Reproductive Freedom as well. Health care must be kept at an affordable level where enrollment is up and families and individuals are adequately protected. We know that preventative care is the best way to decrease health care costs in the long run.

I will champion environmental justice and protections for our beautiful state. Our finite resources are not a power grab or profit share for corporations.

I commit to a robust grassroots fundraising campaign that builds community transparency and ensures our communities' voices are represented.  We deserve to know who is funding our politicians. We also deserve to know that candidates are not taking money from special interests. If I’m not building this campaign on individual dollars and donors, then I have no business being elected.

The power of Unions rests in their collective bargaining and support for one another. I firmly stand against “Free Riders” and believe every union worker should contribute their fair share of dues and/or service fees as a condition of their employment. This in turn promotes stronger financial stability and bargaining leverage.

We must plan for how technological advances will impact our younger generations and set a firm foundation for them to prosper in the future. I will hold large companies and tech firms accountable with stringent transparency safeguards and reporting standards. Under my leadership, we will not allow large corporations to circumvent our justice system and jeopardize our future for their profit. We will create economic development opportunities based on long term planning, future-forward industries, investing in our people and communities and providing the infrastructure to support changing systems.

Today I make that commitment to support others and I ask that of you.

Join me so that we all can win.”
